HELP FILE

There is a new version of the LastPass Mac App, which gives users the same experience, plus access to features such as the Sharing Center, Security Challenge, Emergency Access, Account Settings, additional Hot Keys, and much more.

With this new version, users will receive the latest functionality and security updates as quickly as possible, which ensures they have a consistent experience across all platforms, web browsers, and devices.

To get the latest LastPass Mac App, you will need to download it directly from https://lastpass.com.

Please follow these instructions:

  1. Download the updated app from https://lastpass.com/misc_download2.php#app-for-mac.
  2. Scroll to find the LastPass Mac App.
  3. Click the Download button and follow the instructions.
  4. This new version will replace your existing app.

When you install the new app, it will automatically replace the one you already have installed.  You will need to launch the new app and log in.  From there, you can use LastPass as you always have.  Your experience will continue uninterrupted with the new app download.

What's different about the new app?

Users of the new Mac App will have the same experience, plus access to features such as the Sharing Center, Security Challenge, Emergency Access, Account Settings, additional Hot Keys, and more.

Note: Starting with LastPass Mac App version 4.4.1 (and including the Safari web browser extension), the Unlock with Touch ID feature is not available.

Behind the scenes, the technology of the app works a little differently.  The original LastPass Mac App was built with native Mac technologies, and this new one is built with technologies shared with our LastPass apps.  Having all of our apps on one technology provides users with consistent experience across all platforms and quicker access to the latest functionality and security updates.

The app also includes the LastPass Safari web browser extension.  This means if you use Safari, you can enable the LastPass web browser extension for Safari.  If you do not use Safari, that's fine and no further action is needed after you download the new Mac App.

Can I still use my keyboard shortcuts/hotkeys?

Yes!  The new LastPass Mac App actually offers more shortcuts than in the legacy app - including the one to search your Vault.  To set up shortcuts (after you've installed and logged in to the new LastPass Mac App), you can go to File Menu > Preferences > HotKeys.

Can I still search my Vault and copy and paste passwords with keyboard shortcuts/hotkeys?

Yes.  To enable Site Search, go to File Menu > Preferences > HotKeys > Site Search.  Put your cursor in the Site Search field and enter the command you would like to set, then click Save.

Once you have Site Search hotkey enabled, you can use it search your Vault and use your keyboard to copy and paste.  Use up/down arrow keys to navigate to your desired credentials.  Use left/right arrow keys to navigate to the copy function.

What happens to the legacy Mac App going forward?

The legacy Mac App will continue to function but is no longer supported and no longer receives security updates.
