Change Site Passwords

    To keep up with best security practices, it is recommended that you update your stored passwords regularly to minimize security compromises. First, change your password directly on your desired website within the website's settings, then update within LastPass.

    Tip: Vault items flagged with red "Password at risk" indicator are password strength alerts that encourage you to change the item's weak or reused password, or add a missing password to the item.

    Update automatically using the LastPass browser extension

    1. In your web browser toolbar, click the inactive LastPass icon inactive LastPass icon.
    2. Enter your email address and your LastPass master password, then click Log In.

      Result: An active LastPass icon active LastPass icon indicates you logged in successfully.

    3. Go to your desired site and log in with your current username and password.
    4. Change your password within the site's account login settings. If desired, you can have LastPass create a strong password for you by clicking the Generate Password icon within the field.
    5. Once your changes are saved, click Update on the prompt from LastPass to automatically update the stored password in your LastPass vault.

    Update manually using the in-field icon

    1. Go to your desired site and change your password within the site's account login settings. If desired, you can have LastPass create a strong password for you by clicking the Generate Password icon within the field.
    2. Log out of your site.
    3. In your web browser toolbar, click the inactive LastPass icon inactive LastPass icon.
    4. Enter your email address and your master password, then click Log In.

      Result: An active LastPass icon active LastPass icon indicates you logged in successfully.

    5. In the login field of your site, click the LastPass Field icon .
    6. Hover over the entry you want to update, then click Edit.
    7. Make your desired changes. To reveal text as you type, click the Show Text icon . You can also click the History icon to view the username and/or password history for this stored site.
    8. When finished, click Save.

    Update manually using the web browser extension

    1. Go to your desired site and change your password within the site's account login settings.

    2. Log out of your site.
    3. In your web browser toolbar, click the inactive LastPass icon inactive LastPass icon.
    4. Enter your email address and your master password, then click Log In.

      Result: An active LastPass icon active LastPass icon indicates you logged in successfully.

    5. Click the active LastPass icon active LastPass icon, then do one of the following:
      • Hover over your desired entry from the list of matching sites at the top of the web browser extension menu and click Edit.
      • Look up your stored site using the Search field and click Edit.
    6. Make your desired changes. To reveal text as you type, click the Show Text icon . You can also click the History icon to view the username and/or password history for this stored site.
    7. When finished, click Save.

    Update manually within your vault

    1. Navigate to your desired site and log in with your username and current password.
    2. Change your password within the site's account login settings.
    3. Log in to LastPass and access your vault by doing either of the following:
      • In your web browser toolbar, click the LastPass icon active LastPass icon and select Open My Vault.
      • Go to https://lastpass.com/?ac=1 and log in with your email address and master password.
    4. Select Passwords in the left navigation.
    5. Locate your site entry, then hover over it and click the Edit icon .
    6. Make your desired changes. To reveal text as you type, click the Show Text icon . You can also click the History icon to view the username and/or password history for this stored site entry.
    7. When finished, click Save.
