How are licenses handled for managed companies in LastPass Business?
A LastPass Business account that leverages managed companies handles user license management, allocation, and billing slightly differently than a standard LastPass Business account.
How many user licenses are available for a managed company?
The LastPass admin of the primary account (MSP technician) account will have a managed companies option appear in the left navigation, and their designated license pool will be displayed. This is a shared license pool for all managed companies that are set up.
What is the difference between consumed, available, and allocated licenses?
A consumed (sometimes also referred to as active) license is one that has been taken by an individual LastPass user, who was:
- Added by an admin via the Users page, through directory integrations (i.e., AD FS, Azure AD, Okta, Google Workspace, PingOne, PingFederate, or OneLoginAD FS, Azure AD, Okta, Google Workspace, PingOne, PingFederate, or OneLogin), or
- Added by an admin via the Use the LastPass Provisioning API, or
- Created outside of the MSP account (for example, by a personal user) and has accepted an invitation sent by an MSP admin or a standard admin
An available license is one that is free for a user to be added via the Users page from within the managed company's Admin Console. A license can also become available if a user is disabled or deleted and the license returns to the primary account license pool as available.
Allocated licenses describe the license pool (or, total amount of licenses) that is assigned per managed company to be shared among users.
For example, you can allocate 50 licenses to a managed company, and if only 10 licenses are active, it means that there are 40 available licenses left to be assigned.
Where can I see my license count totals?

What is the difference between license information displayed in the old Admin Console and the new Admin Console?
The license information displayed on the new Admin Console is different from the license information displayed on the old Admin Console.
In the new Admin Console, the following license information is displayed:
- Consumed by users: The number of licenses in use by individual LastPass users across all managed companies
- Allocated to companies: The total number of licenses that the primary company and its managed companies have in the license pool, minus the licenses consumed by the primary company (so this number will be different each time an internal user is added)
- n% Consumed: The percentage of licenses in use, out of the total number of licenses (Consumed by users divided by Allocated to companies, expressed as a percentage)

In the old Admin Console, the following license information is displayed:
- total active licenses: The number of licenses in use by individual LastPass users across all managed companies
- licenses available: The number of licenses not in use and therefore available for allocation from the license pool to managed companies
- total number of licenses: The total number of licenses that the primary company account and the managed companies have in the license pool (the sum total of total active licenses and licenses available)

How are licenses billed for managed companies?
The MSP account is billed for the number of user licenses active on the 27th of the month, or closest working day, subtracting any licenses provided for internal use.
