How do I troubleshoot or uninstall the LastPass for Safari app extension?

    Need some help? Below are some known issues and how to resolve them when installing and using the LastPass for Safari app extension on your Mac. If needed, you can uninstall the app extension, then reinstall.

    Notice: LastPass discontinued support for the legacy Mac App for desktop as of February 29, 2020.

    Check that your version of macOS is supported

    The Safari app extension is supported on the two (2) most recent major macOS versions with a 64-bit processor required.

    While the Safari Legacy Extension will continue to function on Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) or earlier, that extension will no longer receive updates due to Apple restrictions.

    Update the LastPass for Safari app extension

    Check for updates and install the latest.

    1. Quit Safari.
    2. Select the LastPass Menu Bar icon LastPass Menu Bar icon then select Check for updates.
    3. Optional: If desired, check the box for the Automatically download and install updates in the future option to allow LastPass to update automatically when a new version is available.
    4. Select Install Update.
    5. Select Install and Relaunch to reopen the LastPass for Safari app extension.

    Issue: The LastPass for Safari app extension menu is blank

    The main cause of this issue may be that your "Local Items" Keychain cannot be unlocked. Learn more about possible causes and resolutions for this in Apple Discussions.
    Note: If you are using Active Directory credentials to log on to your Mac, or if the permissions for your Mac user account are restricted, please contact your IT administrator to assist with unlocking your "Local Items" Keychain.

    About this task: Alternatively, you can try re-enabling the LastPass for Safari app extension as follows:
    1. In the Menu Bar, select Safari > Preferences.
    2. Select the Extensions tab.
    3. Uncheck the box for the LastPass option in the left navigation.
    4. Check the box for the LastPass option to re-enable it.
    5. Quit Safari and relaunch again, as you may have clicked on the extension before LastPass finished logging you in to your account.

    Issue: You can't enable the extension or it has disappeared from Safari

    1. Quit Safari.
    2. Relaunch Safari.
    3. In the Menu Bar, select Safari > Preferences.
    4. Select the Extensions tab.
    5. Uncheck the box for the LastPass option in the left navigation.
    6. Check the box for the LastPass option to re-enable it.
    7. Check to see if the LastPass for Safari app extension has returned and is working properly.
    What to do next: If you are still encountering issues, try clearing your Safari cache, then quit Safari and relaunch again.

    Uninstall and reinstall

    1. Quit Safari.
    2. Quit the LastPass for Safari app extension app.
    3. Once both are closed, go to your Applications folder.
    4. Click and drag the LastPass Safari Extension App icon into the Trash.
    5. Follow these instructions to reinstall and log in to the LastPass for Safari app extension.
