Use LastPass on an iPad Split Screen

For iPad users, Apple introduced split-screen multitasking features that will allow you to use two apps simultaneously so you can more easily accomplish multiple tasks at once. The new features include two multitasking modes: Slide Over and Split View. Both are available in landscape and portrait orientation.

Slide Over can be invoked by sliding your fingertip over the right edge of the screen to open a list of compatible apps. The Slide Over pane can be adjusted to take up ⅓ of the screen space. LastPass will appear in this list, so you can easily jump to the app if you want to add or copy/paste information. You can also drag and drop entries from your vault into the other application visible on the split screen. Tapping the window in the left navigation or swiping down on the Slide Over window from the top of the iPad screen allows you to switch between apps. Slide Over is supported by the iPad Mini 2 or later Mini models, iPad Air or later Air models, and the iPad Pro or later Pro models.

Split View is an even more advanced multitasking method that you can invoke by sliding the left edge of the Slide Over tray to divide the screen into two windows. Unlike Slide Over, you can work in both apps at the same time.

Again, LastPass users can conveniently have their vault open in one window and another app open in the second window, allowing for easy copy/paste or adding information to LastPass. Split View is only supported on the iPad Mini 4, iPad Air 2, and iPad Pro.

LastPass URL scheme and Launch Center Pro

Other iOS applications can use the LastPass URL scheme to launch LastPass and perform actions on your behalf. This is particularly useful when used with applications such as Launch Center Pro.

If you are not currently logged into LastPass, or the LastPass lock screen is active, the action will be completed after login is successful or the app is unlocked.

These are the four actions that can be performed, with example URLs:

    lastpass://search/text

    • Performs a search of ‘text’ in the vault and recently visited sites, as if it were typed in the text bar at top.

    lastpass://vault

    • Opens LastPass with the vault as the selected tab.

    lastpass://http://example.com

    • Opens the provided web URL in a new tab, which in this example is ‘http://example.com’
    • If the Site is in your vault, your saved credentials will be filled.

    lastpass://https://example.com

    • Opens the provided secure web URL in a new tab, which in this example is ‘https://example.com’
    • If the Site is in your vault, your saved credentials will be filled.
