LastPass for iOS Autofill FAQs

View answers to frequently asked questions about using LastPass to automatically fill stored data from your vault into apps and websites via both autofill integrations.

What is the Safari extension in iOS?

The new LastPass Safari extension for iOS 15 brings the full power of the LastPass browser extension experience to your iPhone and iPad. You will now have automatic filling, automatic saving, and the ability to fill credit cards and addresses – and so much more!

Do I need to have the LastPass app for iOS installed?

Yes – the LastPass for iOS Safari extension is bundled with the LastPass app for iOS and is required in order to enable and use LastPass for autofill via the Safari extension.

How is this different than LastPass autofill in iOS settings?

The LastPass autofill integration in your iOS settings offers the ability to fill login credentials across all mobile browsers and apps. This integration can be enabled in the Settings app of your iOS device, which then offers login credentials only via the QuickType bar on your mobile keyboard.

Starting with iOS 15 and running v5.12.0 of the LastPass app for iOS, the Safari extension autofill integration gives you the full desktop experience of LastPass all from the Safari mobile browser. This allows you to automatically fill login credentials and form fill data directly into websites launched in the Safari browser, as well as offer the ability to save credentials, generate secure passwords, edit vault items, and much more.

To take advantage of the full autofill experience, it is recommended that you enable both integrations for the LastPass app for iOS:
    • Enable LastPass in iOS autofill settings, which allows LastPass to fill login credentials only into any app or mobile web browser.
    • Enable LastPass in the iOS Safari extension, which allows LastPass to fill login credentials and non-password items (form fill data such as addresses and payment card info) directly into websites launched in the Safari mobile web browser. Additionally, this integration will offer to save login credentials to your vault, generate secure passwords, and much more.

Can I turn off the LastPass autofill in iOS settings integration?

We don’t recommend it. While the new iOS Safari extension provides a great experience on Safari, across other browsers and native applications you will still want to use the iOS autofill to fill your login credentials from LastPass.
