Troubleshoot the LastPass Windows for Desktop application

If being prompted to update the LastPass for Windows Desktop application after you reboot your Windows machine, even though you have already updated it, try the following options to prevent it.

    Uninstall and reinstall

    1. Uninstall the LastPass for Windows Desktop application.
    2. Reboot your machine.
    3. Reinstall the LastPass for Windows Desktop application.

    Reset the Microsoft Store

    1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard.
    2. In the Search bar, type "PowerShell" then right-click on Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
    3. Type the following: Get-AppxPackage lastpass | Remove-AppxPackage
    4. If it does not already exist, create a folder in the following location: C:\WindowsAppReadiness.
    5. Reboot your machine.
    6. Reinstall the LastPass for Windows Desktop application.

Remove the update check from startup

    • If the user permissions allow, you can access the Task Manager and disable any LastPass-specific entries and/or the general AppInstall entry to prevent the version check altogether at startup. For more information, see How to Change Startup Apps.

Install the Appx file instead of the Microsoft Store app

    • It is required that the company administrator that manages the LastPass for Windows Desktop application entry in the Microsoft Store enables the option to install the application while offline. This will allow users to download the Appx file and run it directly, instead of having the Microsoft Store attempt to manage the installation.
