How do I change my Mac password but keep offline authentication enabled?

If you need to update your Mac account password but want to keep offline authentication enabled for your workstation, you can update your password then pair the LastPass Authenticator app with your workstation again.

Important: While offline authentication can be used when your workstation is offline, an internet connection is required to complete the initial setup process.
Before you begin: Your workstation must be online with active internet connectivity to perform the steps below.
    1. On the Mac sign-in screen, enter your current Mac account password and proceed to sign in.
    2. When prompted with the Reset Password screen, enter a new password then re-enter to verify it. If desired, enter a password hint (recommended).
    3. Select Reset Password.
    4. On the Pair LastPass Authenticator again to enable offline authentication screen, select Let's go.

Troubleshooting: If you choose Skip for now, you will need to manually re-enroll your workstation with the LastPass Authenticator the next time you sign in with LastPass MFA.
    5. Open the LastPass Authenticator app on your mobile device, then tap Add account icon to Add account.
    6. Using your mobile device camera, scan the QR code available on the screen.

Troubleshooting: If you can't scan the QR code:
      1. In the mobile app, tap Add manually.
      2. Back on your desktop, on the enrollment screen, select Enter secret key manually to show the secret key.
      3. In the mobile app, enter the secret key provided, then tap Save.
    7. Once your account has been added in the LastPass Authenticator app, return to the desktop and in the Passcode field, enter the 6-digit TOTP from the mobile app (associated with your workstation).
    8. Select Authenticate.
    9. Next, you are prompted to authenticate (using an online authentication method for the LastPass Authenticator app) to complete the enrollment process for your workstation. By default, a push notification is sent to your device, however, you can use any of the other backup authentication methods instead (TOTP, phone call, or YubiKey).

    10. On the confirmation screen, select Finish.
Results: You have successfully reset your Mac account password and paired the LastPass Authenticator app with your workstation again and kept offline authentication enabled.
What to do next: Sign in to your Mac workstation using offline authentication with your updated account password.
